Hunting
The Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway travels through territory that has been a hunter’s paradise since the days of the Pawnee and vast buffalo herds. Nearly 150 years later, it is still a popular region to hunt and fish, in the Cheyenne Bottoms State Wildlife Area and in the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge and on leased hunting grounds in between the two important wetlands. Sportsmen from all 50 states and several foreign nations come to test their skills, and possibly have the hunt of a lifetime, amid the area’s vast marshes, prairies, wild woodlands, and rich crop fields.
